Battle of The Top Two SoCon Teams

Going into tonight’s matchup Samford (13-3) and UNCG (10-6) are both 3-0 in SoCon play. Vegas has the Bulldogs as a -6.5 favorite but expect a much closer game this evening at the Pete Hanna Center. Coach Bucky McMillan commented on how difficult this game will be in Thursday’s postgame conference “That's gonna be an absolute war.”

Win Streak on the Line

Samford is on a 27-game home winning streak which is tied for 3rd longest in the nation (tied with Iowa St.) and behind Houston and UConn. In just 5 seasons at Samford, Bucky has an impressive overall record of 90-44 (57-10 at home). Bucky has led the Bulldogs to two SoCon regular season championships in the past two seasons and won the SoCon tournament to make March Madness last year. One of the Most Talented Samford Teams

After losing 4 out of 5 starters due to NIL and graduation, Bucky has reloaded the roster. Be on the lookout for Jaden Brownell who quietly leads the Bulldogs in points scored this season averaging 15.1 points a game. Another transfer to remember is Trey Fort. The Mississippi State transfer leads the Bulldogs in 3 pointers made this season and is right behind Brownell, averaging 14.9 points a game. Transfer from Tulane, Collin Holloway is just 1 point away from 1,000 career points. He will more than likely hit that career milestone tonight at the Pete as he is averaging 10.7 points a game. You can’t talk about this Samford team without mentioning field general and 6th year senior, Rylan Jones. The veteran from Utah ranks 16th in the country in assists.

Get to the Pete Hanna Center to watch this marquee SoCon matchup tonight at 5:00 PM. As Samford Scoop says: Bucky McMillan. The Winter Soldier.
